There’s a reason rose ouds saturate the market – people simply love them! For even though some fragrance enthusiasts scoff at the redundancy of this age-old genre, if it’s done right, then even they can’t help but indulge in this classic pairing made in heaven. And dare I say Attainment was a testament to that fact as it was our first fragrance to sell out and we’ve constantly been asked when it would come back since…but wait no more!
So for Volume II I wanted to turn things up a notch while still remaining mostly true to the original composition. With Aquilaria Agallocha being the focal point I obviously started with the Hindi Oud! We were blessed to come across a specimen from Meghalaya with a very similar barny profile as before but even more smooth and with less fermented/sour notes. From there we sourced a lush Nangarhar Rose from Afghanistan to be the bride to wed the oud with Bulgarian Rose as her bridesmaid lending ruby red undertones. Then I spiced up the mood by adding leathery castoreum and waxy civet, but just a touch to satisfy that carnal itch without being overtly offensive. But part of Attainment’s charm is how the dry, almost arid barn of the oud is softened by luscious vanilla beans. So to accentuate that a tad more I added a small dose of Oakwood to lend a subtle caramelized sweetness. And with that I capped it off with a drizzle of Royal Green Hojari Frankincense to bolster the balsamic, resinous depth of the Bushman’s Candle in the base.
But that’s not all…each bottle will contain a slice of musk skin to further macerate and exalt your aromatic experience as time goes on. But take note this is a very limited batch!
From Oman to Khorasan and down to Hindustan, Attainment II contains precious materials sought after for millennia by Sheikhs and Sultans alike. This is my homage and tribute to a long line of classical perfume heritage so it is my hope that it transports you to another time, another place. One full of long lost nostalgia as you recline on fine carpets beneath the shade of palm trees whilst sipping saffron tea with companions and bakhoor wafts tendrils of sumptuous smoke over your robes. One where the application of fragrance was seen as a daily and sacred act, a communion with nature and life itself…
